A new era of urban mobility

Metropoles are on the rise

By the end of the century, approximately 68% of the global population will live in cities.

To accommodate this trend, and making cities the best ever places to live, building design will be changed. In future cities, people will have the desire to commute quickly, efficiently and safely. Key to this will be elevators.

Just as the creation of the telephone and computer completely changed the way we communicate, architects will be key to design and create buildings that once felt unimaginable to keep up with the rapid pace of continuous change needed to reinvent city infrastructure.

With MULTI by TK Elevator,, the sky is the limit as it gives architects the power to reshape the world for a greener and smarter future by:

No more boundaries in height and shape of buildings. With MULTI, conventional elevator height limitations of around 600 meters are eliminated. Powered by linear motor technology the MULTI will be able to travel to new heights, pushing the limits of high-rise architecture to unprecedented levels.

Not just connecting buildings but whole cities – just imagine a seamless journey from the minute you step out of an airport via a skybridge, where a MULTI cabin is already waiting, into the train station to get to the center of town, shopping mall and office without ever having to step outside.
Reducing waiting times (as MULTI moves like a continuous train) to get you from A to B quickly, efficiently and with less stress.

Using less space for shafts (up to 50%), as space gets squeezed as our cities get bigger, so TK Elevator and MULTI return a huge amount of usable space back to buildings and owners to drive productivity and commercial profit.

Being a mechanical miracle, MULTI is also the intelligent backbone for smart buildings.

Its powerful artificial intelligence is truly connected to a building, being able to forecast passenger flow and adapting its capacity to peak times automatically.

MULTI is an award-winning and groundbreaking innovation in elevator design.TK Elevator's innovation supports architects and city planners in truly transforming how our buildings and cities are shaped today and tomorrow.

MULTI is the world’s first ropeless elevator that moves not only vertically but also horizontally. It works with linear motor technology. This revolutionary design will move elevator cars both vertically and horizontally – and even inclined – like a continuous train, making what once seemed the impossible a reality.

MULTI uses ropeless and linear drive technology. Put simply, this enables multiple cabins to be incorporated in a single loop of continuous movement. With a targeted speed of 6 mps this system will enable near-constant access to an elevator cabin every 15-30 seconds. Passengers will therefore benefit from reduced waiting times and ease of access in large and crowded buildings.

The unique and innovative exchanger allows MULTI to move in multiple directions. From vertical to horizontal and even inclined, MULTI is capable of exploring new ways and types of movements for elevators in and even between buildings.

Building on the basic principles of the Paternoster elevator that moves in a continuous loop, MULTI has the ability to recover energy from cars going down and immediately use that energy on the track where cars are going up. This will help make our buildings and cities smarter. As an additional feature should there ever be a power outage MULTI will store enough energy to bring cars to a secure destination putting passenger safety first.

MULTI will bring greater capacity and shorter waiting times to users.

It will use less energy to make our buildings more sustainable today and for future generations, and allow architects to completely rethink the shape and design of buildings they create.

The pioneering technology also has the power to make our cities smarter by moving goods as well as people around and transforming key urban services such as airports, metros and retail spaces and more.

One of the oldest and most integral parts of city infrastructure worldwide.

Metro stations are feeling the strain from rapidly increasing commuter numbers. MULTI technology could be added to existing complex routes built deep underground and literally open up new directions of travel to update and enhance the current networks for a speedier and less stressful commute.

Metros

Besides improving passenger transportation in the world’s most advanced high-rise buildings we also created special versions of our MULTI for multiple scenarios:

Airports

MULTI could work hand-in-hand to give customers the very best impression of a new city they enter.

Limited, expensive and strained resources are at odds with mounting air passenger numbers who are set to double their number to 7.2 billion by 2035, according to IATA.Combining accelerating walkways to get you to your gate faster, passenger boarding bridges and intelligent gate systems that connect quicker, and a MULTI elevator to get your from the airport to office or tourist site quickly and hassle-free.

Hotels

As hotels expand and become mini cities within their own rights, MULTI has the possibility to connect different areas of hotel spaces, or even sister hotels on multiple sites.

To ensure holidaymakers and business travelers can explore their home from home with minimal time waste. This could be extremely effective also in countries with extreme weather conditions to ensure guests never have to step outside during adverse conditions.

Offices

Imagine MULTI can whisk you into your office for the perfect start to the day.

A MULTI cabin can direct you to your first meeting seamlessly, help you prep for your next meeting with a personalized screen as you travel to the next meeting, and even help you plan the best time to visit the canteen when there are less queues.

Shopping Malls

MULTI is being constantly tested and evolved at our one-of-a-kind TK Elevator test research center in Rottweil, Germany.

246 meters high, containing Germany’s highest visitor platform and multiple shafts for testing and certifying our ropeless MULTI elevator system.

You can visit our Rottweil test tower and see a fully functioning MULTI. We’d be more than happy to arrange a tour for you.

Q: What is MULTI and how does it work? A: MULTI is the world’s first cable-less elevator for high-rise buildings that moves not only vertically but also horizontally. Q: Why was it designed? A: As urbanization has increased – buildings are getting higher, wider, and more complex to house people and traditional elevators aren’t keeping up. Instead, they’re limiting architects who want to go above and beyond. MULTI is a real game changer. Because it moves sideways too, building design won’t be limited by the vertical alignment of elevator shafts. That allows for more visionary ideas that couldn’t be realized until now.

Q: What are some of the key advantages of MULTI in building design? A: MULTI gives architects the power to reshape the world for a greener and smarter future – by having the potential not just to connect buildings but whole cities as our urban mobility needs grow. MULTI means there are no more limits in building heights and designs for architects – it can work in super and mega-high-rise buildings, reduces waiting times on average by 15-20 seconds (as MULTI moves like a continuous train), and is sustainable and energy efficient – plus uses less space for shafts (50%) so returns a huge amount of usable space back to buildings and owners to drive productivity and commercial profit.

Q: Is MULTI technology safe? A: Extremely – not having cables might seem less safe but that’s not the case at all. The linear motors are safe because they need to be energized before they move. That means that without energy, the cabins can’t move. That’s why the cabins include batteries in case of energy breakdown. Additionally, we use a multi-step braking system that doesn’t allow cabins to move freely. We fully comply with the very strict procedures of Functional Safety Management in cooperation with some of the most well-established certifying institutes.

Q: How will MULTI evolve in the future as technology advances? A: We hope by combining the groundbreaking innovation of MULTI with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology it will completely revolutionize elevator design and operations – for example AI and IoT technology will store cabins in quieter periods of less traffic and even be able to fully shut down energy-consuming parts when not needed to drive high levels of energy efficiency. Q: How do I find out more? A: For more information on MULTI and to visit our test tower to see a fully functioning unit in action please contact: multi@tkelevator.com
